The Problem:
Kwik Trip is one of the largest independently owned convenience store chains in the United States. The company owns and operates 361 Kwik Trip stores in the Midwest. A leader in the industry, Kwik Trip was recognized as The Convenience Store Chain of the Year in 2005 by Convenience Store Decisions. Business challenges facing Kwik Trip were:
  • Comply with Visa’s Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP) requirements
  • Improve the management and maintenance of the 2,500 computers in its stores
  • Improve the efficiency of data movement between stores and centralized systems

  • The Solution:
ATC conducted a detailed review of the existing systems and processes, developed the requirements working with KT personnel and proposed the use of Afaria to integrate home office systems with store systems.
With that decision made, ATC began designing and implementing the new solution to support store systems and mobile users. Afaria was used to manage Kwik Trip’s Pinnacle POS systems, PDI back-office systems, credit card authorization, and training systems. Afaria was also used to update anti-virus files and to log all file transfers for audit in compliance with the CISP. ATC employed Afaria Patch Manager to distribute Windows OS and application patches.

    The Results:
  • VISA CISP compliance requirements were completely met.
  • Mission critical applications and data are now safely and securely handled.
  • Kwik Trip can now manage all 2,500 of its remote PCs using a centralized system.
  • Data transmission to and from stores is significantly more efficient.
  • Kwik Trip has the capabilities and flexibility it needs to respond quickly to changing business conditions.

  • “This development project and implementation absolutely had to be successful. The VISA CISP requirements had to be met. And it was important that we gain greater control over our store operations and remote PCs, while improving the efficiency of our data transmissions. Thanks to ATC and Afaria, we’ve been very successful.”
Ron Sissel, Manager of Retail Systems, Kwik Trip
